Apart from diving there's a lot to fill your days around here. We have a two-person kayak for rent by the hour to cruise the lake under your own steam. Waterskiing can be organized any day, snorkelling equipment is available for rent and cliff jumping is just a short hike or kayak away. Immerse yourself in the local Kakchiquel culture by learning backstrap weaving with a local teacher. We also have a traditional temescal or wood-fired sauna for the ultimate in cleansing relaxation.
There are many foot paths around Santa Cruz with stunning views of the lake and volcanoes. Hikes range from 20 minutes up to the village, 3 hours to San Marcos, or 5 hours for the adventurous up to Solola. Maps and info available at the restaurant. Start your day right with morning yoga from 8-9:30 on our patio. Just Q40 with our fantastic instructors. If you are interested in a massage Elaine offers them for just Q200/$25 an hour. Haircuts, waxing, facials and other beauty treatments are also available in our salon by appointment any day of the week.
Study Spanish with friendly qualified instructors. We offer a weekly package for $140 including 7 nights dorm accommodation (room upgrade available), 6 days of Q75 food allowance in our restaurant, and 20 hours of one-on-one Spanish classes. Not ready to commit to a week? Hourly classes are available for Q30 (just over $3!). Jump off our dock and go for a swim. The water is around 20° or 70°F, so it's cool enough to wake you up and may cause some shrinkage, boys, but permanent damage is unlikely. Note: Volcanoes in the distance and moonlit swims can do wonders for your pulling power.
Relax. Perfect the art of doing nothing. Swing in a hammock. Check a few emails. Waste some time on the pool table or dart board. Get excited about board games (Risk, Scrabble, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit, Chess, Backgammon, and even Twister), read a book or a crappy magazine. After all, when doing nothing who's to say when you're finished?
We are home to Ati Divers, proud to be Atitlan's only dive shop since 1996. We offer PADI courses from beginner (Open Water) all the way through Divemaster, and especially popular is our Altitude Specialty Course which only takes a day to complete. If you're already certified, let us take you on a fun dive where you'll see massive volcanic rock formations, sunken trees, and loads of lake fish. When you plunge your hands into hot volcanic mud at the "Hot Spots" you'll know you're diving someplace very different.
Yoga
We offer yoga classes every morning on our patio overlooking the lake and volcanos. A one-and-a-half hour class with our fantastic instructor is only $5 per person (min 3 pax). What a wonderful way to start your day at the lake. All levels are welcome, and even if you have never tried yoga before this is a great way to start.
